WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN LAST MINUTE HEARTBREAKER

The Mount Ida College women's soccer team dropped their third straight loss in a hear breaker at Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) member Simmons College 1-0 this Saturday in Boston, Massachusetts.  The Mustangs, who have lost their past two straight GNAC bids, fall to 1-3-1 overall, 0-2 in conference play while the Sharks improve to 5-3-1, 3-0-1 in the GNAC.   

The match ran scoreless until the 89th minute of play with 44 seconds remaining in the game. Simmons junior Brooke MacKenzie (Mansfield, MA) served up a free kick into the box with a minute to go.  Mount Ida goalkeeper Megan Begins (Jericho, VT/Jericho) made the stop initially but fumbled the handle for a free ball in front of the net.  Shark freshman Ally Ayotte (Litchfield, NH) toed a shot past Begins in front of the net to escape overtime and notch the victory.

Simmons controlled the ball for most of the afternoon, outshooting the Mustangs 30-5. Keeper Rachel Elliot (Amherst, NH) recorded her third shutout of the season, making one save.

Begins was big for the Mustangs today making nine saves, denying all Sharks attempts until the final minute.

Mount Ida will host GNAC foe Emerson College this coming Monday starting at 4:00 p.m.
