FINAL:              MOUNT IDA 23, WHEELOCK 12

NEWTON, Mass. --  Junior Brooke Scahill (Gales Ferry, Conn.) scored a school-record 13 points on five goals and eight assists, while fellow junior Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) added seven goals to lead Mount Ida to a 23-12 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Wheelock Thursday evening at Alumni Field.

Just two days after tying the school-single match mark with 12 points in a win over Emmanuel, Scahill topped that total in helping lift the host Mustangs (7-1) to their sixth straight triumph while also setting a school-single match record for assists in the process.  Mount Ida overcame an early 1-0 deficit with four unanswered tallies, including two off the stick of senior Emily McConnell (Dracut, Mass.), but the visiting Wildcats (2-2) netted five of the game’s next seven markers to even matters at 6-6 on junior Colleen Macdonald’s (Sandwich, Mass.) goal with just over 10 minutes to play in the first half.

The Mustangs responded by scoring seven times in the final 9:30 of action, including a hat trick from Kelly, to take a 13-8 advantage at the break, and after Wheelock closed back to within four (15-11) on Macdonald’s goal with 22:45 remaining, the hosts collected eight of the last 10 markers of the match that included three from Scahill and two from Kelly to account for the final margin.

Kelly added an assist to finish with eight points in the victory for Mount Ida, which received five goals and an assist from senior Hayley Napier (Fairhaven, Mass.) to go with four tallies and three helpers from McConnell.  Sophomore Meghan Sargent (Brattleboro, Vt.) chipped in with two goals for the Mustangs, who have outscored their opponents by a 118-41 margin during its longest winning streak since last April.  Scahill (who is averaging 11 points over the last three contests) and Kelly have now combined for 80 goals and 49 assists for 129 points on the year.

Macdonald finished with six goals and an assist for seven points in the setback for Wheelock, which received a hat trick from senior Katie Frade (Dartmouth, Mass.).  Senior Alexandra Clark (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) added a marker and helper as well for the Wildcats, who received single tallies off the sticks of junior Alexah Mellis (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore Katelyn Dickson (Dracut, Mass.).

Senior Eleanor Garvey (Elkridge, Md.) picked up her seventh win of the season with a 15-save effort in goal for Mount Ida, while senior Erin Sior (Shrewsbury, Mass.) made 12 stops in the setback for Wheelock as the Mustangs outshot the Wildcats by a 40-36 margin overall (35-27 on goal) and held a 19-17 edge in draw controls for the contest.

Mount Ida hosts Lasell in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference clash on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field beginning at Noon, while Wheelock heads to Longmeadow, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon for a New England Collegiate Conference contest with Bay Path that begins at 4:00 p.m.
