FINAL:              MOUNT IDA 20, RIVIER 9

NEWTON, Mass. --  Junior Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) tied her school single-match record with a 12-point performance of eight goals and four assists as Mount Ida notched its fourth straight victory with a 20-9 Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse triumph over Rivier Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The two teams battled to a 6-6 deadlock over the first 16-plus minutes of play before freshman Jordyn Ringuette (Colchester, Conn.) gave the host Mustangs (5-1, 2-0 GNAC) the lead for good with just under 11 minutes remaining in the opening half, as Mount Ida received two tallies each from Kelly and senior Hayley Napier (Fairhaven, Mass.) in the final 3:46 of the half to grab an 11-7 advantage at the break.  The visiting Raiders (0-4, 0-2 GNAC) closed back to within three (12-9) on junior Marin Owens’ (Brookline, N.H.) man-up marker 8:06 after intermission, but that would prove to be the last Rivier goal of the contest, as Kelly (who shares the single-match scoring mark with former Mustang standout Amanda Bowen), Napier, Ringuette and junior Brooke Scahill (Gales Ferry, Conn.) combined to score the final eight unanswered tallies of the day for the hosts to account for the final margin.

Napier added five goals and an assist to finish with six points in the win for Mount Ida, which received four tallies and four helpers from Scahill to go with a hat trick from Ringuette.  Sophomore Dzenana Omerovic (Revere, Mass.) netted a hat trick in the setback for Rivier, which received two goals each from Owens and freshman Stephanie Whalen (Litchfield, N.H.) on the day.  Sophomore Amanda Barton (Pelham, N.H.) added a marker and three assists for the Raiders, who received a single helper off the stick of sophomore Alyssa Ciszek (Tyngsboro, Mass.).

Senior Eleanor Garvey (Elkridge, Md.) picked up her fifth victory of the season with an 11-save effort in goal for Mount Ida, while junior Courtney Laperriere (Keene, N.H.) made 15 stops in the setback for Rivier.  The Mustangs outshot the Raiders by a 42-26 margin overall (35-20 on goal) and forced 35 turnovers by the visitors on the afternoon.

Mount Ida, which has outscored its opponents by a 76-20 margin during its current winning streak, hosts Emmanuel in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference outing on Tuesday evening at Alumni Field beginning at 6:00 p.m., while Rivier heads into Boston on Tuesday evening for a GNAC clash with Simmons that begins at 7:00 p.m.
