WESTON, Mass. --  Juniors Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) and Brooke Scahill (Gales Ferry, Conn.) combined for seven goals and three assists to lead Mount Ida to an 8-4 victory over Regis in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse regular season finale for both teams Tuesday evening at Regis Stadium.

 

The visiting Mustangs (11-4, 7-3 GNAC) overcame an early 2-0 deficit by scoring the final six goals of the half over a 12:38 stretch, as Kelly collected a hat trick over that span.  Scahill’s man-up marker 5:30 after intermission extended Mount Ida’s lead to 7-2, but the host Pride (12-4, 7-3 GNAC) closed back to within three on tallies from senior Erin Loehner (Danvers, Mass.) and sophomore Brooke Ross (Hanover, Mass.) that came 39 seconds apart.  Kelly provided an insurance goals with just over 13 minutes remaining to account for the final margin, as the Mustangs snapped Regis’s seven-match winning streak with the triumph.

 

Kelly finished with four goals and an assist for five points in the win for Mount Ida, as she closed to within three points of reaching the 300 mark for her career.  Scahill added her 11th hat trick of the spring to go with a pair of helpers for the Mustangs, who also received a tally off the stick of freshman Jordyn Ringuette (Colchester, Conn.).  Ross netted a pair of goals in the setback for Regis, which received a marker from senior Linsay Bumila (Raynham, Mass.) and a helper from sophomore Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.).

 

Senior Eleanor Garvey (Elkridge, Md.) picked up her 11th victory of the season with a 16-save effort in goal for Mount Ida, while senior Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) made 11 stops in the setback for Regis as the Mustangs outshot the Pride by a 26-25 margin overall and held a 12-2 advantage in draw controls for the contest.

 

Mount Ida will be seeded third in the upcoming Great Northeast Athletic Conference championships and will host sixth-seeded Norwich in a league quarterfinal round match on Saturday at Alumni Field at a time to be determined.  Regis will be seeded fourth in the GNAC playoffs and will entertain fifth-seeded Saint Joseph’s (Maine) in another quarterfinal round clash on Saturday at Regis Stadium.
