Scahill Nets Career-High Seven Goals As Women's Lacrosse Flies Past Albertus Magnus In GNAC Opener

NEW HAVEN, Conn. --  Junior Brooke Scahill (Gales Ferry, Conn.) netted a career-high seven goals as part of an eight-point performance to lead Mount Ida to a 22-8 victory over Albertus Magnus in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse opener for both teams Tuesday evening at Celentano Field.

 

The visiting Mustangs (3-1, 1-0 GNAC) broke open a one-goal game by scoring seven unanswered markers in less than 10 minutes in the first half to grab a 13-5 advantage at the break, and after the host Falcons (0-1, 0-1 GNAC) closed back to within seven on junior Alex Chan’s (Monroe, N.Y.) free position conversion with 15:35 remaining in the match, Mount Ida iced its triumph by tallying the final seven goals of the contest, including three off the stick of junior Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.), to account for the final margin.

 

Kelly finished with six goals and four assists for 10-point performance on the night for the Mustangs, who received four goals and an assist from senior Hayley Napier (Fairhaven, Mass.).  Senior Emily McConnell (Dracut, Mass.) notched a hat trick and an assist to finish with four points for Mount Ida, which received a pair of tallies off the stick of freshman Jordyn Ringuette (Colchester, Conn.).

 

Chan collected two goals and two assists in the setback for Albertus Magnus, which received a pair of tallies from freshman Courtney Cacace (Brookfield, Conn.).  Freshman Katherin Martinez (Norwalk, Conn.) chipped in with a marker and two helpers for the Falcons, who received single goals off the sticks of sophomore Aida Sarr (The Bronx, N.Y.) and freshmen Kaitlin D’Agostino (Hamden, Conn.) and Sabrina Pohlig (West Palm Beach, Fla.).

 

Senior Eleanor Garvey (Elkridge, Md.) picked up her third win of the young season with an eight-save effort in goal for Mount Ida, while sophomore Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) made 11 stops in the setback for Albertus Magnus.  The Mustangs outshot the Falcons by a 37-22 margin overall (33-16 on goal) and held a 20-12 edge in draw controls for the contest.

 

Mount Ida heads to Leicester, Mass. on Thursday afternoon to take on Becker in a non-league outing that begins at 4:00 p.m., while Albertus Magnus hosts Bay Path in a non-league clash on Thursday evening at Celentano Field beginning at 6:00 p.m.
