Mustangs Down Falcons, Return to GNAC Postseason as #6 Seed

New Haven, Conn. – The Mount Ida women's lacrosse team finished off the regular season with a convincing 22-7 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory on Saturday afternoon over the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College. 

The Mustangs (4-12, 3-6 GNAC) return back to GNAC postseason play by earning the #6 seed and will travel to the #3 seeded Saints of Emmanuel College on Tuesday, May 3rd with game time slated for 8:15 PM at Clemente Field. 

With the setback, the Falcons end the year with a 1-12 overall record and an 0-9 mark in conference play. 

Six different Mustangs scored in the game, led by junior attack Nicole Pavao (Peabody, Mass.) with six goals and one assist. Sophomore Hayley Napier (Fairhaven, Mass.) and freshman Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) each chipped in with five tallies for the guests, while senior Samantha Basler (Plymouth, Mass.) torched the hosts for four markers of her own. Senior captain Briana Baker (Westerly, R.I.) and freshman Anabelle Dentino (Maynard, Mass.) both found the back of the net for Mount Ida as well.

It was a two-headed attack for the hosts as freshman Aida Sarr (Bronx, N.Y.) and Miranda Jassil (North Branford, Conn.) combined for all seven of the Falcon goals. Sarr netted four tallies to close out her first year on campus with a team-high 20 markers, while Jassil found the back of the net three times in her final collegiate game.

Defensively, Fekianne Charles (Bridgeport, Conn.) had a team-best four caused turnovers for Albertus Magnus. Freshman midfielder Taylor Bisaillon (Columbia, Conn.) had a game-high four draw controls for the home team.

On the defensive side, the guests forced 16 turnovers and freshman Siobhan Geary (Pembroke, Mass.) contributed a team-high five and Barker added three CT's of her own.

Mount Ida was dominant on draw controls winning 32 in the game. Napier, Kelly and Basler all had five apiece for the visitors.

The Mustangs opened the game on a 10-0 run over the first 15 minutes of action. During that spurt, Mount Ida scored twice on free-position shots and Pavao capped the run with her second tally of the day.

Over the final 15 minutes of the opening half, AMC outscored the guests, 3-2, to trail 12-3 at the half. To close out the frame, Jassil scored twice and Sarr netted her first of the day.

In the second half, the Mustangs pulled away by scoring 10 of the 14 combined goals between both teams including eight in a row beginning at the 26:33 mark of the stanza.

In the cage, Albertus Magnus freshman Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) made 18 saves for the hosts while on the opposite side, Jackie Tarsook (Derry, N.H.) turned aside five shots to earn the win.
