DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Mount Ida College women's lacrosse team fell in non-conference action this afternoon at Cressy Field on the campus of UMass-Dartmouth by a final score of 19-5. Two time reigning Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week, Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) led all Mustangs with a hat trick to go along with seven draw controls and two ground balls.
The Mustangs saw two other goals in the contest off the sticks of Co-captain Briana Barker (Westerly, R.I.) and Emily McConnell (Dracut, Mass.) while both combined to pick up three ground balls. Sophomore Molly Thompson (Canterbury, Conn.) led all Mustangs with three ground balls in the contest.
Corsair senior Colleen Kane (Arlington, Mass.) registered seven goals, the second-highest single-game mark of her career, and an assist to lead all scorers on the day. Junior Catrina Longo (Billerica, Mass.) collected a career-high five goals on eight shots and junior Taylor Hill (Braintree, Mass.) posted two assists. Six other Corsairs tallied a goal apiece.
Just 47 seconds in, UMass Dartmouth sophomore Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.) put the Corsairs on the board to begin the offensive flurry. Kane then buried the next two in less than a minute, before McConnell put in the Mustangs' first score.
Nearly five minutes passed until the next goal when Corsair sophomore Leah Douty (Framingham, Mass.) scored on a free position shot. Raquel Riley (Wakefield, Mass.) registered another goal ten seconds later to put the Corsairs up four.
Kelly's first goal came at 10:15, but UMass Dartmouth then rattled off the next seven scores, including two apiece on the sticks of Kane and Longo, increasing the lead to nine. Kelly put the streak to a halt with a free position score at 24:46, but Kane carried the Corsairs into the half with a 13-3 lead with her fifth goal of the stanza.
The second half spelled much of the same story, as Longo opened the period with two-straight goals, both off Hill's assists. After another Kane goal, Barker netted her goal following seven minutes of scoreless play. Kane, Longo and Kasey Hayes (Medway, Mass.) rattled off the final three Corsair scores before Kelly capped day at 24:14.
In goal for UMass Dartmouth, freshman Kaitlyn Burchill (Bridgewater, Mass.) needed to make only five stops. In net for Mount Ida, freshman Jackie Tarsook (Derry, N.H.) turned aside 14 shots.
The Corsairs outshot the Mustangs 45-24 in the contest and rise to 2-2 on the season, while Mount Ida falls to 1-3.
The Mustangs are back in action on Tuesday when they host Fitchburg State with game time slated for 3:30 PM. UMD is on the road next after a 10-day hiatus, taking on Worcester State on March 29 at 7:00 PM.
