NEWTON, Mass. -- Mount Ida freshman midfielder Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Corvias Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
This is the first conference award for Kelly as she has jumped out to a hot start to begin her collegiate lacrosse career. Kelly and the Mustangs got the 2016 season underway this past Saturday with a 19-11 setback at Nichols.
Kelly led the Mustangs with seven total points while scoring five goals and notching two assists in her first collegiate lacrosse game. Kelly scored her first five career goals on 17 shots picking up three ground balls, winning five draw controls and causing two turnovers.
In the non-conference contest, Kelly fired 14 of her 17 shots on goal en route to the natural hat trick in the first half scoring four of her five in the opening stanza alone.
Kelly and the Mustangs will look ahead as they travel to Leicester, Massachusetts on Tuesday afternoon to face off against Becker with game time set for 4:00 PM.
