Mount Ida College women's lacrosse senior attacker Jen Thomspon (Easton, MD/Easton) notched a game-high five goals in a 16-7 non-conference victory over hosting Regis College (MA) Monday evening in Weston, Massachusetts. The Mustangs capture their second consecutive victory of the 2011 season improving to an even .500 at 2-2.
Mustang freshman attacker Ebony Mills (Harrison, ME/Oxford Hills) and Danielle Chuba (Wrightstown, NJ/Northern Burlington Regional) tied with four goals apiece. Mills has now scored an impressive 12 goals in the past two contests.
Teresa Crevier (Milford, MA/Milford) and Tana DiCenso (Framingham, MA/Framingham) each posted three goals for the Pride. Kira Feeter (Keene, NH/Keene) had the game's first score for Mount Ida with just 15-seconds having expired on the clock. Chuba, who finished the game with two assists, contributed on the Feeter goal.
Mount Ida held a 5-2 lead through the opening 9:00 minutes of play. With a game so close in score, Regis College held its ground for eight minutes having not given up a goal. It would not be until 11:24 remained in the first half that Thompson would tally her second score on an Ali Sarno (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport) assist. Sarno finished the game tied with Molly Sheppard (Brookhaven, NY/Bellport) with three assists. Sarno also contributed a goal for Mount Ida.
Crevier would answer the Thompson score with back-to-back goals for Regis College. Her first score at 6:16 was unassisted, and her second was a free position score that passed goalie Katherine Chusa (Norwood, MA/Norwood).
Crevier had Regis' first three scores of the period before DiCenso scored the Pride's last three goals.
Mount Ida finished the game with 26 shots taken. Thompson and Mills led the way with seven attempts each. Regis College took just 19 shots, with Crevier posting a team-high seven, and teammates DiCenso and Franli Bencosme (Lawrence, Mass.) contributed five and four, respectively.
The Mustangs will head to their second road non-conference contest this coming Wednesday against hosting UMASS-Dartmouth with game time slated for 4:00 p.m.
