BOSTON, Ma. – The Mount Ida College women's basketball team closed out their 2014-15 season on Saturday afternoon with a 72-55 defeat at Suffolk University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Regan Gymnasium.
A pair of Mustangs each recorded double-doubles on the afternoon. Sophomore Angelique Martinez (Taunton, Mass.) and freshman Imani Bumpus (West Hartford, Conn.) each scored 18 points in the game for Mount Ida. Martinez led all players with 17 rebounds in the game and finishes the year with 12 double-doubles on the season.
Bumpus had a solid all-around game, leading all players with four steals while also posting a team-high three assists. Bumpus also collected 10 rebounds in the setback.
Sophomore guard Stephanie Champoux (Tewksbury, Mass.) was also in double-digits in the final game of the year, scoring ten points and grabbing three rebounds.
Senior Shelby Santini (Winchester, Mass.) finished with a team-high 18 points to pace the Suffolk offense on the afternoon. Sophomore Kelsey Schiebel (Windham, N.H.) chipped in with 17 points highlighted by a 5-for-7 shooting clip from three-point land.
The Rams jumped out early scoring the game's first eight points and never trailed throughout the 40-minute contest. They were able to build a 29-point lead early in the second half after taking a 45-20 advantage into the break.
Mount Ida sophomore Katlyn Jesse (Marshfield, Mass.) added four points and two assists, and Brittany Crosby (Riverside, R.I.) added three points and three rebounds.
The loss means that the 2014-15 season for Mount Ida will finish with a 7-18 overall record and 1-10 mark in conference play.
Suffolk finishes the regular season at 12-13 overall. They will await the GNAC Playoff pairings which will be announced later Saturday evening, and are slated to host a quarterfinal game on Tuesday.
