Four-Time Winner Martinez Honored by GNAC

NEWTON, Mass. -- For the fourth time this season, Mount Ida freshman center Angelique Martinez (Taunton, Mass.) has earned recognition from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).

Martinez was named the GNAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon by the conference office.

The rookie center averaged a double-double over two games for Mount Ida, thanks in part to a monster performance against local rivals Lasell, in which she scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season.

Martinez finished the week with another 10-rebound performance and had three blocks and three assists to go with seven points at Johnson & Wales.

Averaging 11.2 rebounds per game, Martinez is the conference leader on the glass, the only player in the GNAC averaging double-digit boards per game.

She will lead the Mustangs into their final two games, beginning Tuesday night at Saint Josephs (ME) and closing the season with Senior Day next Saturday against Johnson & Wales at Mount Ida College Athletic Center.
