The Mount Ida College women's basketball team opened this season with an 83-61 non-conference loss to hosting Regis College. The Mustangs fall to 0-1 while the Pride captured their first victory of the year. 26 turnovers by the Mustangs was a major factor in the loss.
Nicole Casimiro (Lee, NH/Oyster River) and Cherie Parisi (South
Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) finished with 20 and 10 points
respectively. The Pride's Jessica Page (Quincy, Mass.) led
all scorers with 24 points. Page and teammate Brittany White
(Dorchester, Mass.) accounted for more than 50 percent of the Regis
scoring offense. Two Mustangs (Parisi, Casimiro) tallied
double-figure scores against the Pride defense. Casimiro was
8-of-15 from the floor.
No Mt. Ida College player had a free throw attempt on the night.
Regis was 26-of-39 (66 percent) from the charity stripe.
Parisi shot better than 35 percent from the floor, and led all
Mustangs with nine total rebounds on the night.
Regis opened with a 14-0 run until Katie Morvan (Northbridge,
MA/Northbridge) scored off a Jeileen Rivera (Springfield,
MA/Springfield Central) assist.
Page scored 24 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor. She was
60 percent from the free throw line (3-of-5).
White finished with 20 points, eight rebounds, and six steals in
28 minutes. Half of White's points came from the free throw
line.
Regis' Stephanie Wozmak (Auburn, N.H.) contributed 14 points for
the Pride, 12 off of three-pointers. She was 80 percent from behind
the arc.
Mt. Ida cut into the 21-17 Regis lead with a three-pointer from
Jenny Davis (Bristol, England/Filton College). An Ashley Boyd
(Hanson, MA/Hanson-Whitman) steal set-up Rivera, draining a
three-pointer cutting the lead to one.
The Pride regained a two-point lead on a Sarah McNult (Hampstead,
N.H.) jumper. Regis had a 24-point lead, its largest of the night,
with 1:22 remaining in the game capping the 83-61 loss for the
Mustangs.
Mount Ida will host Curry College this coming Tuesday in their home opener starting at 6:00 p.m.
