Southworth Records Nine Kills As Men's Volleyball Drops 3-0 GNAC Opener At Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. --  Senior Grant Andler (Chicago, Ill.) notched 13 kills and three digs to lead Rivier to a 3-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference men’s volleyball victory over Mount Ida by game scores of 25-18, 25-10 and 25-12 in a league match played Wednesday evening at Muldoon Gymnasium.

 

Sophomore Francis Kokoros (Braintree, Mass.) added eight kills in the triumph for the host Raiders (10-5, 3-0 GNAC), who received seven kills, five service aces and five digs from junior Nathan Kunkel (Plum Borough, Pa.).  Sophomore John Equitani (Coventry, R.I.) and freshman Ernesto Montes (Huntington Park, Calif.) combined for nine kills for Rivier, which received a combined 37 set assists from sophomore Danny Sciolaro (Wayne, N.J.) and the freshmen duo of Eric Roderick (Salem, N.H.) and Andrew Panameno (Los Angeles, Calif.) along with nine digs from senior Kyle Heidler (Hampstead, N.H.).

 

Junior Brett Southworth (Orange, Conn.) registered nine kills and pair of digs in the setback for the visiting Mustangs (8-7, 0-1 GNAC), who received three kills from freshman Isaac Reed (Keene, N.H.).  Junior Tyler Shinkle (West Deptford, N.J.) and sophomore Andre Foster (Davis, Calif.) each had two kills on the night for Mount Ida, which received 16 set assists from sophomore Kevin Keohane (Jefferson, N.J.).

 

Mount Ida hosts Regis and Wentworth in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match on Saturday morning at the Athletic Center beginning at 10:00 a.m., while Rivier heads to Springfield, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to square off with Sage and top-ranked Springfield in a non-league tri-match that begins at 5:00 p.m.
