Men's Volleyball Drops GNAC Tri-Match Decision To Emmanuel, Emerson

BOSTON, Mass. --  The Mount Ida men’s volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to Emmanuel and host Emerson in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match played Saturday afternoon at Brown & Plofker Gymnasium.

 

Junior Erik English (Simi Valley, Calif.) registered nine kills and seven digs in Emmanuel’s (9-12, 4-4 GNAC) 25-14, 25-13, 25-17 victory over the Mustangs (10-15, 0-8 GNAC), as the Saints also received eight kills, five digs and three service aces from junior Kevin Orsley (San Jose, Calif.).  Junior Alex Silva (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) and sophomore John Carroll (Massapequa, N.Y.) combined for 11 kills for Emmanuel, which received 25 set assists and six digs from sophomore Seamus McDonagh (Long Beach, N.Y.).

 

Sophomore Andre Foster (Davis, Calif.) recorded eight kills in the opening setback for Mount Ida, which received five kills and five digs from junior Brett Southworth (Orange, Conn.).  Sophomore Kevin Keohane (Jefferson, N.J.) collected 16 set assists and three digs for the Mustangs, who received three kills and three digs from sophomore Kevin Vanderhorst (Lawrence, Mass.) and six digs from freshman Tyler Dorfman (West Hartford, Conn.).

 

Junior Mark Piorkowski (Montclair, N.J.) notched 11 kills in Emerson’s (10-7, 3-5 GNAC) 25-17, 25-16, 25-23 nightcap victory, as the Lions received seven kills and three digs from senior Nick Rusk (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.).  Sophomore Diego Garcia (Honolulu, Hawai’i) added four kills and eight digs for the hosts, who received a combined 29 set assists from sophomore Lucas Raagas (Cambridge, Mass.) and freshman Marcus Cepeda (Sacramento, Calif.).

 

Dorfman registered seven kills and five digs in the second match setback for Mount Ida, which received five kills and three digs from Southworth to go with nine set assists, six digs and a pair of kills from Vanderhorst.  Keohane chipped in with seven set assists and four digs for the Mustangs, who received two kills from freshman Isaac Reed (Keene, N.H.) and four digs from junior Nate Gyampo (Providence, R.I.).

 

Mount Ida heads to Bennington, Vt. on Tuesday evening to take on Southern Vermont in a non-league outing that begins at 7:00 p.m., while Emmanuel entertains Cal Lutheran and Lesley in a non-league tri-match on Sunday afternoon in Boston beginning at Noon.  Emerson travels to Providence, R.I. on Tuesday evening to square off with Johnson & Wales in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference clash that begins at 7:00 p.m.
