Gyampo, Southworth Named As 2018 Men's Volleyball Co-Captains

The start of the 2018 Mount Ida men’s volleyball season is less than a week away, and as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign, Head Coach Craig Martin has named juniors Nate Gyampo and Brett Southworth as the Mustangs’ co-captains for his seventh campaign at the helm.

Southworth, a native of Orange, Conn. and a graduate of Amity Regional High School, led Mount Ida with 244 kills while ranking second in both digs (136) and service aces (47) a year ago, while Gyampo, a native of Providence, R.I. and a graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School, ranked third on the team in kills (112), service aces (27) and digs (112) in 2017.

“Both Nate and Brett have helped build this program over their first two seasons of play, and their leadership has played a key role in our success,” Martin, who led Mount Ida to a school-record 13 victories last spring, says of his co-captains.  “They have provided a consistent positive example both on and off the court, and I look forward to that continuing once again this season.”

The Mustangs begin the 2018 season on Saturday, January 27th by hosting Eastern Nazarene and Sage in a non-league tri-match at the Athletic Center that begins at 10:00 a.m. EST.
