Vanderhorst Notches Double Digits in Mustang Win

NEWTON, Mass. -- Freshman Kevin Vanderhorst (Lawrence, Mass.) had a career-high 11 kills to lead Mount Ida College to a 3-1 win over Pine Manor College in non-conference men's volleyball action on Thursday evening at Brunelli Court.

Mount Ida improved to 12-14 on the year, taking the first two sets by 25-14 and 25-21 scorelines.

Pine Manor came from 19-12 down in the third set to claim a 25-23 victory, but Mount Ida claimed the final set 25-12 to send the Gators to a 6-8 record on the year.

Vanderhorst added seven digs in the win, while Peter Griffenkranz (Deer Park, N.Y.) and Nathan Sprengle (Williamstown, N.J.) each served five aces, a category in which the Mustangs racked up 14 points.

Griffenkranz also piled up 25 assists, while Shinkle spent some time setting with 11 assists and also had four kills in the win.

Pine Manor was paced by eight kills from freshman Dion Johnson (Las Vegas, Nev.) and six kills out of freshman Edward Cromwell (Las Vegas, Nev.).

Cromwell also had a team-high 14 assists, while Oscar Estrada (North Point, Fla.) led all players with 12 digs.

Mount Ida freshman Carter Amadon (Athol, Mass.) pounded seven kills and made just one error for a .400 hitting percentage on 15 attempts.

The Gators head to Newbury College this Saturday for a 3:00 pm game at Hellenic College.

Mount Ida goes back to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play this Saturday with a tri-match in Boston against Emerson and hosts Emmanuel.
