Mustangs Succumb to Saints in Three Sets

BOSTON, Mass. – A short-handed Mount Ida College men's volleyball squad suffered a 3-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) defeat to Emmanuel College at the Jean Yawkey Center on Tuesday night.  The set scores were 25-10, 25-16 and 25-9 and with the Saint Patrick's Day win, Emmanuel improves to 5-6 on the season and to an even .500 at 3-3 in league play, while Mount Ida falls to 5-14 overall (0-6 GNAC).

Mount Ida' offense was led by Peter Griffenkranz (Deer Park, N.Y.), who tallied six kills and three digs.  Junior outside hitter James Ames (West Hartford, Conn.) added five kills and a team-best six digs, while team setter Michael McCullough (Southborough, Mass.) handed out nine assists in the effort for the Mustangs.

The Saints combined to hit .475 as a team, with 34 kills in 61 swings and just five errors.  Junior outside hitter Drew Jordan (Braintree, Mass.) led the Emmanuel attack with his match-high nine kills.  Junior middle Garrett McGarry (Chicago, Ill.) added seven kills and three blocks.  Senior setter Sean Baxley (Saint James, N.Y.) dished out 22 helpers, while senior libero Cody Diehl (Derry, N.H.) led the Emmanuel backrow with seven digs in the win.  Junior middle hitter Michael Felix (Sylmar, Calif.) totaled a match-high four blocks for EC.

Mount Ida plays next on Saturday (3/21) in a GNAC tri-match with Albertus Magnus College and Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Emmanuel will take to the court again tomorrow (3/18) in a rescheduled non-conference match at MIT with a 6:00 PM start time.
