Mount Ida Runs Into Tough Raiders Squad Along GNAC Slate

Nashua, N.H. -- Visiting Mount Ida College faced a difficult ask of their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule with a trip to Rivier University on Wednesday evening and suffered a 3-0 defeat to the #12 nationally ranked Raiders in men's volleyball action at Muldoon Gymnasium.

Rivier was powered by junior Mike Hadder's (Yucaipa, Calif.) nine kills, and improves to 5-6 overall this season with a perfect 2-0 mark in conference action. Mount Ida falls to 3-11 and is still in search of GNAC win number 1 (currently 0-4).

For Mount Ida, both senior Kalyn Smithson (Vilseck, Germany) and junior James Ames (West Hartford, Conn.) led the team with four kills each. Junior Jimmy Wessel (DeKalb, Illinois) notched 12 assists.

Hadder was one of ten Raiders who recorded a kill in the contest. His hitting percentage finished at .643 with a block solo and four digs. Freshman Matt Heckler (Simi Valley, Calif.) also had a solid evening as he added five kills and a .500 hitting percentage over the three sets. Sophomore Matt LaSance (Madison, Conn.) was the assist leader in the contest with 13 helpers and Mike Hovnanian (Methuen, Mass.) provided seven digs to pace the defensive effort. Senior Brendan Tutino (Manorville, N.Y.) lined three service aces in the win.

The Mustangs will return to action when they host a Saturday tri-match against Lesley University and Pratt Institute inside the Mount Ida College Athletic Center. The Mustang's matches are set for 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, with the Lynx and Canoneers squaring off at 1:00 PM.

Rivier will return to action this weekend as they host Emerson College and Daniel Webster College in a Saturday afternoon tri-match. First game is also scheduled to begin at 11am.
