Mustangs Sweep Poly in Tri-Match Split

JAMAICA, N.Y. – Mount Ida beat NYU-Polytechnic in straight sets on Saturday afternoon as they split their two games in a men's volleyball tri-match played at York College.

The Mustangs (3-5) used scores of 25-23, 25-17, and 25-13 to take care of the Blue Jays before falling in straight sets to the host Cardinals (25-11, 25-14, 25-17).

Senior Nick Schibi (Torrington, Conn.) hit .714 in the Mustangs' victory, slamming 11 kills and making just one error on 14 attempts. Mount Ida hit .290 as a team, including .438 in the second set, and served ten aces, five of them by Dennis Miranda (Hialeah, Fla.), who had six digs and four kills as well.

Sophomore James Ames (West Hartford, Conn.) had ten kills himself, while sophomore Brady Rodriguez (Longwood, Fla.) piled up 31 assists, and Jimmy Wessel (DeKalb, Ill.) led the way with ten digs.

Poly was led by Fild Kroqi (Bronx, N.Y.), who had 12 kills and the 16 assists of setter Rishi Sarkar (Cherry Hill, N.J.).

Against the Cardinals, the Mustangs were led by five kills from Miranda and nine assists out of Rodriguez. Sophomore Michael McCullough (Southborough, Mass.) set up five points and led the team with four digs.

York was led by Bryan Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who slammed seven kills and hit .583 and Leszek Stankiewicz (Tychy, Poland), who pitched in with eight kills, eight digs and six total blocks.

Avinash Thomas (Mavelikara, India) finished with five kills in five attempts and 17 assists.

The Mustangs return home for a date on Monday with Lesley University at 6:00 pm. The Mustangs have already met the Lynx once this year, beating them in straight sets on January 27th
