HASTINGS ADDS 14 KILLS, MUSTANGS FALL TO WILDCATS 3-1

Saturday, February 23, 2013 (Providence, Rhode Island) - The Mount Ida College men's volleyball team dropped their second straight contest falling 3-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Saturday afternoon against hosting Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island by scores of 15-25, 18-25, 25-18 and 16-25. 

The Mustangs, who dropped a 3-0 loss to the Wildcats at home back on February 11th in Newton, Massachusetts fall to an overall record of 4-7 still searching for their first league win (0-2). The hosts improve to 6-4 for the season sitting in the third spot for the conference standings (4-2). 

Senior Spencer Hastings (Orlando, FL/Timber Creak) paced Mount Ida with 14 kills and nine digs while freshman Justin Rhoden (Corona, CA/Corona Centennial) tallied 12 kills and four blocks in the setback.  Freshman Brady Rodriguez (Longwood, FL/Bishop Moore) added 37 set assists for the Mustangs.

Johnson & Wales was led by junior Dan Tiner (Salem, NH) with seven kills and eight digs while freshman Ryan Kennedy (West Barnstable, MA) added six kills and three blocks. Sophomore J.J. Bessette (Coventry, RI) tallied 27 set assists in the victory for the Wildcats.

Mount Ida will host a non-league tri-match tomorrow against visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology and Newbury College starting at 10:00 a.m.
