The Mount Ida College men's volleyball team split (1-1) a non-conference tri-match this Saturday hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) along with visiting Daniel Webster College Saturday afternoon falling to the Engineer's 3-0 by scores of 25-20, 25-21, and 25-22 while taking down the Eagles 26-28, 25-19, 23-25, 25-20, and15-10. With only two games left on the schedule, the Mustangs improve their overall record to 7-18 and remain at 2-9 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
Against the Engineers, the Mustangs fell for the second weekend in a row against the number 13th ranked team nationally falling 3-0 by scores of 25-20, 25-21, and 25-22. Sophomore Spencer Hastings (Orlando, FL/Timber Creak) posted 23 kills, 10 digs, three blocks, and two aces for Mount Ida. Senior captain Thomas Belton (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) added 22 kills, four digs, three blocks, and three aces while junior McCoy Arnoux (Brockton, MA/Brockton) had eight kills and a block. Senior setter Shane Wilson (Gloucester, MA/Gloucester) distributed 49 assists to go along with 14 digs and an ace.
In a battle that lasted five sets, the Mustangs took down visiting non-conference Daniel Webster College winning 3-2 by scores of 26-28, 25-19, 23-25, 25-20, and15-10. Belton tallied 15 kills, four digs, and two blocks as Hastings registered nine digs, eight kills, three blocks, and an ace. Wilson contributed 29 assists and four digs for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs will travel to Boston, Massachusetts a week from this Tuesday for their final GNAC bid of the season at Emerson College with game time slated for 7:00 p.m.
