The Mount Ida College men's and women's soccer team's competed at
Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Johnson & Wales
University Saturday afternoon in East Providence, Rhode Island
Saturday afternoon. The men's program fell 1-0 giving up a
goal early in the first half remaining that way for the rest of the
contest taking the loss. Mustang women's soccer fell 2-0 for
their dropping their first loss in over a week.
Mount Ida men's soccer fall for the second-straight game holding a
GNAC slate of 4-4 with an overall record of 6-7-1. The
women's soccer squad slumps to 4-9-1 for 2012 with a league
standing of 1-8-1.
In the men's contest, JWU senior midfielder Patrick Nally (Burnt
Hills, NY) scored the only goal of the game just 17:05 into play on
a deflection off the keeper that he sent to the upper corner of the
net. Despite JWU's lead, the Mustangs outshot them 6-3 in the first
half.
Both teams had their chances in the second half, including three shots in a minute span for the Mustangs on JWU keeper Austin Scoggin (Mattituck, N.Y.) that he deflected away with diving efforts. The Wildcats put together a string of their own but couldn't connect as the game ended, 1-0, in favor of the Wildcats.
Sophomore Matt Pils (Monroe, CT/Masuk) made two saves for Mount Ida while Scoggin had five stops in net for JWU.
The JWU women's soccer team posted a 2-0 shutout victory over the Mustangs at Pierce Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Senior defender Samantha Adams (Denver, CO) gave the Wildcats the 1-0 lead on an unassisted 15 yard strike from the right side of the net just 14 minutes into the contest. JWU outshot the Mustangs 8-1 in the first half and took the one goal lead into the break.
Freshman Elizabeth Marinaro (Palo Alto, CA) extended the JWU lead to 2-0 at 78:55 when she headed in a cross from sophomore Kayla Sypek (Westhampton, MA). The Wildcats outshot the Mustangs 6-3 in the second half and 14-4 overall en route to the 2-0 victory.
Freshman Samantha Basler (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North) made four saves in the setback for Mount Ida while freshman Alexa Rose (Lancaster, PA) made three stops in the shut out for the Wildcats.
Mustang men's soccer will travel to GNAC foe Norwich University Wednesday with game time slated for 3:00 p.m. Women's soccer will host league member Albertus Magnus College Wednesday evening kicking off at 7:00 p.m.
