MEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN FIRST GNAC BID 2-1 TO LIONS

Saturday, September 17, 2011(Newton, Massachusetts) – Mount Ida College men's soccer freshman forward Michael Templeton (Charlestown, NH/Fall Mountain) put the Mustangs in front 1-0 in the opening six minutes of the contest.  But Mount Ida gave up two goals throughout the rest of the contest to fall 2-1 in their second Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) bid against hosting Emerson College Saturday afternoon in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Mustangs, who captured their fist conference victory over visiting Rivier College last week winning 1-0, fall to an overall record of 2-4 and drop to 1-1 in league competition.

Templeton notched the first goal of the contest on an unassisted score in the sixth minute of play during the first half putting Mount Ida up 1-0 immediately to create some momentum to start the game.

The visitors notched the equalizer in the 23 minute of the first half on a penalty kick.  Emerson senior Ken Nikravesh (Geneva, Switzerland, Inter. School) promptly put away to knot it up at 1-1.

Nikravesh helped get the Lions past Mount Ida in the 67th minute as he lit up a long pass into the box where Lion senior Cory Walls (Scituate, MA/Scituate) was able to put a head on it just past Mustang goaltender Mat Pils (Monroe, CT/Masuk) to make it 2-1 where it would ultimately stand.

The Mustangs will travel to GNAC foe Suffolk University Wednesday afternoon with game time slated for 8:30 p.m.
