MEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN HOME OPENER AGAINST CORSAIRS

The Mount Ida College men's soccer team only managed two shots on net in 90 minutes of play dropping their third straight non-conference loss of the season in the home opener against visiting UMASS-Dartmouth by a score of 2-0 Tuesday afternoon in Newton, Massachusetts.  The Mustangs fall to 0-3 on the season with their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest coming up this Saturday at Mount Ida while the Corsairs improve to 2-0 overall.

Mount Ida had only 13 shots total, two which landed at the net, for little opportunity to score at all throughout the contest.  The Corsairs put a ton of pressure on the Mustangs defensively making it difficult for the hosts to get anything going on the offensive side of the ball.

The visitors got on the board in the 33rd with their first score on a cross from the right side of the box from junior Matt Orsini (Dudley, MA/Dudley) to sophomore Bruno Araguo (Marlborough, MA/Marlborough) who fired it in the right side of the net.

Mustang sophomore goalkeeper Steven Enright (South Kingston, RI/Prout) make an outstanding save earlier in the half that would have made it 3-0 ending on a sniper shot that was headed for the top right corner of the net that Enright denied out of the box.  The Corsairs took the 1-0 lead into the break with no answer from the hosts who did not get a shot on net in the opening frame.

After a quiet opening 20 minutes to the second half, the visitors added an insurance goal in the 64th minute to take the 2-0 advantage.  Junior Michael Alves (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk) fed a ball to the feet of senior Jarred Goldstein (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth) who hammered a shot past Enright for goal two, ultimately sealing the 2-0 victory for the Corsairs.

Junior forward Billy Beauzile (Brooklyn, NY/Samuel J. Tilden) did the bulk of the shooting for Mount Ida with five shots, only one that was put on net.

Enright did what he could for the Mustangs denying nine balls on 28 total shots by the visitors while UMD freshman keeper Mike Phelan (Carver, MA/Carver) stopped both shots that the Mustangs put on the net.

Mount Ida will have four days off and re-group this coming Saturday in their first GNAC match-up against Rivier College starting at 12:00 p.m.  The Corsairs will travel to face non-conference Fitchburg State College also on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
