The Mount Ida College men's soccer team fell in non-conference play this past Wednesday afternoon against hosting Elms College losing 2-1. Mount Ida falls to 3-7 on the season while Elms snaps a four-game losing streak to improve to 3-8 overall.
Elms broke out to an early lead when sophomore Adam Schnopp (Pittsfield, MA) controlled a loose ball off of a save in front of the net and capitalized with his second goal of the season to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the contest.
Blazers' junior Justin Pearson (Torrington, CT) added the team's second goal towards the end of the first half on a breakaway down the right side from his typical defensive position. The score extended the Blazers lead to 2-0 heading into halftime.
Mount Ida wouldn't give up, outshooting Elms 33-17. The Mustangs' finally struck in the 87th minute off a Billy Beauzile (Brooklyn, NY/Samuel J. Tilden) pass; Hayato Kanesaka (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley) raised it to the top left corner to cut the lead 2-1.
Splitting the net-minding duties for the Mustangs was Steven Enright (South Kingston, RI/Prout) and Andrew Clark (Greenville, NY/Greenville) who combined for nine saves. Senior goalkeeper Nick Pellegrini (Ludlow, MA) compiled eight saves during the contest for the Blazers.
The Mustangs will host Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) member Albertus Magnus College this coming Saturday in double header action with the women's team starting at 2:15 p.m. for the men.
