MEN'S SOCCER DROPS FIRST LOSS TO CURRY 2-1

The Mount Ida College men's soccer team took a tough 2-1 loss against Curry College this afternoon for their first loss of the season.  The Mustangs would drop to 0-1-1 on the season while the Colonel's take a season opener victory improving to 1-0-0.

Mount Ida would be the first to capitalize in the scoring column off a cross by senior Jean Demorcy (Jersey City, NJ/Ferris) that was deflected by senior Matt Gill (Winfield, KS/Winfield/Garden City C.C.) giving sophomore Hermes Lima (Boston, MA/West Roxbury) an easy poke-in goal.  The Mustangs would take the advantage 1-0 with 19:15 to go in the first half.

MIC goaltender Kevin DosSantos (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland/C.C.R.I.) made some outstanding saves throughout the remainder of the stanza maintaining the lead going into the break.  He would tally eight saves for the entire contest.

The second half was back and forth until the 73 minute of the game when the Colonel's got on the board.  Junior Sam Schwarz (Byfield, MA/Triton) converted a through ball into the back of the net tying the match up with little time to spare.

There was no overtime in mind for the visitors who took the momentum for a ride.  They would seal the victory on a head ball by senior J.J. Hallissey (Boston, MA/Archbishop Williams) off a flicked pass by fellow senior Clayton Corto (Manchester, CT/Manchester).  Curry would take home the win in their season opener by a score of 2-1.

Mount Ida tallied nine total shots while Curry fired 19, 13 total in the second half.  Colonel's keeper Freshman Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, NJ/South Kentrt) stopped two shots for his squad.

The Mustangs will have one day of rest to get prepared for Massachusetts Maritime Academy this Thursday at Mount Ida Athletic Stadium starting at 3:30 p.m.
