The Mount Ida College Men’s Soccer team hosted Great
Northeast Athletic Conference neighboring school Lasell College
this past Sunday.
In an odd start to the game, Mustangs junior forward
Chris Meuer (Warminster, PA/William
Tennent) broke away from the sweeper for an open
shot. Brandon Hanss (Halifax, MA/Silver Lake Regional) held
Meuer’s leg in the box for an instantaneous call for the
penalty kick.
Adam Jensen (Boston, MA/Northeastern/Worcester
Academy) would take the kick and miss on a great save
by Lasell keeper Julian Dutton (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand), but
Jensen would collect the rebound and insert the ball in the bottom
left hand corner of the net making it 1-0, 15 seconds into the
contest.
The game would remain 1-0 going into the second half. The Lasers
would tie the game at 1-1 on a cross from the left side by senior
Brian Whelan (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth) for a beautiful head ball
tucked into the bottom right hand corner with 40:42 left in the
game.
The Lasers would take the lead with under 20:00 minutes remaining
on a direct kick stemming from a foul outside the box on a reversed
call. It was supposed to be a corner kick, but after the head
official referred to his linesman the call was changed giving the
visitors the 2-1 advantage.
The game would end 2-1 dropping Mount Ida’s record to 7-5-2
overall, Lasell would raise their record to 8-5-0 and 7-1 in the
GNAC.
MIC goaltender Kevin DosSantos (Cumberland,
RI/C.C.R.I.) would have four saves on the day and
Lasell keeper Dutton would stop nine.
The Mustangs will host Rivier College on Senior Day this Wednesday
for a 3:30 p.m. start.
