WINTHROP, Mass. – Four members of the Mount Ida College men's lacrosse team were selected for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference team, announced on Tuesday afternoon by the conference office.
Junior midfielder Chad Coehlo (Salem, Mass.) was named to the First Team, attack Lucas Stralka (E. Greenwich, R.I.) earned Second Team honors, and midfielder Jon Berry (Chichester, N.H.) and defender Steve Koziski (Peabody, Mass.) were named to the Third Team.
Making his second straight appearance on the GNAC All-Conference team after being selected to the Second Team in 2015, Coehlo was one of the lynchpins of the Mount Ida offense, as he led the team and was second in the conference with 33 assists, a career high. This is the third straight year leading the team in helpers for Coehlo, who also scored 15 goals and entered the 100-point club with five points in a Senior Day victory over Anna Maria. Coehlo posted a conference-leading 17 assists in GNAC play, and for the year also picked up 29 ground balls and caused six turnovers.
The conference leader in goals (49) and points (72), Stralka was one of the most dominant offensive threats in his senior season, in which he also passed the 100-point plateau in just two years as a Mustang. Stralka's 22 conference goals was good for third in the GNAC, and he posted ten hat tricks or better, including five goal performances in wins over Mitchell and Albertus Magnus and four goals in a 10-9 overtime win against Wentworth.
Koziski ends his Mount Ida career with another strong performance at the defensive position. The team leader and a top ten player in the conference with 25 caused turnovers and having grabbed 38 ground balls, Koziski also scored three times this season. He was critical in helping Mount Ida grind out a 14-12 conference win over Rivier with a goal, four caused turnovers and four ground balls in that game.
Highlighted by a six-goal performance at Castleton, Berry notched 25 goals and 15 assists this year, posting multiple points in eleven games this season. He scored in four conference games, and had four points with four goals in a win over Southern Maine as he opened the year with 17 goals in his first seven games.
Stralka, Berry and Koziski are each making their first appearances on the All-Conference team, with Koziski a member of the GNAC All-Tournament team a year ago when he helped the Mustangs to the GNAC finals.
Freshman Aaron Schuck (Falmouth, Mass.) was also recognized as a member of the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team for the Mustangs, who made their sixth consecutive trip to the GNAC postseason and finished the year with a 9-9 record.
