NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Mount Ida College men's lacrosse team collected a 21-13 road victory over Albertus Magnus College on Saturday afternoon to improve to 4-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
Mount Ida (4-4, 4-1 GNAC) outscored the Falcons 10-2 in the opening quarter, in which Wyatt Sullivan (Arlington, Mass.) scored three of his four total goals on the afternoon. Sullivan finished the contest with four goals and one assist to lead the Mustangs.
Lucas Stralka (E. Greenwich, R.I.) and Austin Phillips (Haverhill, Mass.), who would score three times in the game, each struck twice each in the first quarter as well, and Peter Hardy (Tyngsboro, Mass.) scored both of his goals in the second quarter en route to a 17-3 Mount Ida lead at halftime.
The Mustangs outshot the Falcons 38-12 in the half, including a 24-4 showing in the first quarter.
Albertus' goals in the first half came from Greg Buck (Berlin, Conn.) and Justin Bennet (Fairfield, Conn.) as Buck registered two of his five goals in the opening half.
Buck also opened the second half with a goal to make the score 17-4 as he finished off of a pass from Mike Choiniere (Bethany, Conn.). Dalton Sargent (Augusta, Maine), Paul Mirmina (Milford, Conn.) and Buck each scored in the third quarter as Albertus outscored the Mustangs 4-1 in the third.
Mount Ida got two goals and two assists from Marcus Donahue (Braintree, Mass.) and a goal and three helpers from Jon Berry (Chichester, N.H.) to help hold off Albertus.
The Falcons cut the Mount Ida lead to 10 at 20-10 in the fourth quarter and scored four of the last five goals of the game.
The Mustangs outshot Albertus 57-43 on the afternoon, while the Falcons outshot the Mustangs 31-19 in the second half of play.
Choiniere finished the game with two goals and five assists.
Mustang freshman Cam Hayward (Derry, N.H.) (4-4) made five stops on eight shots to earn the victory. Tyler McElreath (Upton, Mass.) went into the game in the second half and made six stops, while allowing 10 goals.
Jack Kerner (Merrick, N.Y.) made 18 saves in the contest for Albertus.
The Mustangs return home for a non-conference game on Monday when they host Becker at 4:00 pm.
Albertus (1-8, 0-4 GNAC) returns to action on Wednesday when the Falcons host Johnson & Wales (R.I.) at 3:00 p.m. in GNAC play.
