TROCCHI/FERNANDES NET THREE EACH, MUSTANGS WIN 14-2

Wednesday, April 4, 2012 (Nashua, New Hampshire) - Behind a three goal, two assist performance from freshman attacker Michael Trocchi (Danvers, MA/Danvers) leading the Mount Ida College men's lacrosse team their fourth straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over hosting Daniel Webster College Wednesday evening in Nashua, New Hampshire winning 14-2. 

The Mustangs improve to an overall record of 7-3 remaining perfect in league action with a crucial GNAC match-up coming on Saturday at neighboring rival Lasell College with game time slated for 1:00 p.m.

Paired with a solid performance from Trocchi, junior Gilson Fernandes (Saugus, MA/Saugus) added three goals and a dish while junior midfielder Nick Yacuzzi (Oakham, MA/St. John's-Shrewsbury) chipped in two goals and three assists. 

Kurtis Fotheringham (Shrewsbury, MA) and Justin Chiulli (Saugus, MA) netted single scores for the Eagles (3-5, 0-5 GNAC), both coming in the second quarter.

Freshman Anthony Montelbano (Matawan, NJ/Old Bridge), senior Jimmy McAllister (Smithfield, R.I.) and sophomore Craig Bay (New Canaan, CT//Vermont Academy) combined for three saves in goal for the Mustangs. Tommy Driscoll (South Boston, MA) stopped six shots for DWC.

Cordaro, Nick Maurais (Peabody, MA/Peabody), Ian Saunders (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) and Ryan Tirelli (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown) added single goals for the winners.

Mount Ida finished with a 20-5 shots in goal advantage and a 30-26 advantage on ground balls, while picking up two short-handed goals and held the Eagles to 1 for 8 on extra man opportunities.

Trocchi netted his hat trick in the first period while Fernandes added two.

Yacuzzi made it 9-0 1:51 into the second but Fotheringham answered seven seconds later off the faceoff with his 10th of the season to put the Eagles on the board. Trocchi and Yacuzzi followed midway through the quarter for an 11-1 game before Chiulli netted his 14th of the year with 2:42 to go before the break.

Davis would net both his scores in the third quarter while Fernandes tacked on his third midway through the fourth for the 14-3 final.
