MEN'S LAX SPLITS IN ARKANSAS, YACUZZI NOTCHES 100TH

February 24-25, 2012 (Conway, Arkansas) - The Mount Ida College men's lacrosse team traveled to Conway, Arkansas this past weekend competing against two unfamiliar opponents. The Mustangs opened up the action with a 13-7 loss to Carthage College from Kenosha, Wisconsin. Sunday, 10th year Head Coach Andrew Fink and his squad captured a 7-1 victory over visiting Hendrix College for their first win of the season closing out the weekend at 1-1.

In the victory over Hendrix the Mustangs did not surrender a goal until the final quarter of the contest with stifling defense. Mount Ida saw goals from a slew of different faces led by junior midfielder Nick Yacuzzi (Worcester, MA/St. John's-Shrewsbury) adding a goal and an two assists recording the 100th point of his career in the process.

Sophomore attacker Zachary Rosen (East Greenwich, RI/St. Andrew's School) followed Yacuzzi with a goal and assist. The Mustangs also saw scores from senior Zachary Jacobson (Shoreview, MN/Moundsview), junior Jake Davis (Chester, NH/Pinkerton Academy), sophomore Zach Davis (Old Lyme, CT/Xavier), and freshmen Gilson Fernandes Jr. (Saugus, MA/Saugus) and Chaz Storm (North Grafton, MA/Blackstone Valley Tech.). Senior defender Riley O'Brien (North Kingstown, RI/North Kingstown) also added an assist. Freshman Michael Trocchi (Danvers, MA/Danvers) dished out three assists respectively.

The Mustangs led the groundball game leading 44-31 and with shots on net firing 43 attempts to Hendrix's 18 for the day.

Mount Ida senior netminder Jimmy McAllister (Smithfield, RI/LaSalle Academy) and the 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Defensive Player-of-the Year played through the first half notching seven saves. Sophomore Craig Bray (New Canann, CT/Vermont Academy) saw third quarter action notching two saves while sophomore transfer Kyle Cordaro (Worcester, MA/Hebron Academy) notched three stops in the final stanza closing out the win.

Sophomore Kyle Danehy (Marlborough, MA/Marlborough) manned the middle circle winning 3-of-10 face-offs.

The Mustangs are back in action this Saturday for the third annual Frostbite Classic at Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts with game time slated for noon.
