The Mount Ida College men’s lacrosse program dropped their second loss of the season against non-conference and hosting Kean University falling 14-2 Saturday afternoon in New Jersey. The Mustangs fall to 1-2 overall and have yet to play a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest.
The Cougars (3-2) held a 33-12 advantage in shots and a 24-12 edge in groundballs over Mount Ida (1-2).
For Mount Ida, sophomore goalkeeper James McAllister (Smithfield, RI/LaSalle Academy) finished with five saves.
After the Mustangs scored the first goal of the game, Kean answered with nine straight goals spanning the first, second and third quarters to build a 9-1 lead. Gannon scored three in that run and would later add three straight goals in the fourth quarter as the Cougars pulled away for the victory.
For the Mustangs, freshman Nick Yacuzzi (Oakham, MA/St. John’s) and senior attack Brandon Keith (Barnstable, MA/Barnstable) each scored once.
Seniors Jazimar Bailey (Hoboken, NJ) and Scott Leathem (Fair Lawn, N.J.) each had two goals and two assists for the Cougars. Senior C.J. Gannon (Morris Plains, N.J.) scored six goals and in goal, senior John Gesumaria (Cranford, N.J.) had made three saves.
The Mustangs will travel to non-conference Western Connecticut State University next Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m.
