NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Despite career highs for Errald Jordine (Stamford, Conn.) and John Oliver (N. Babylon, N.Y.), Mount Ida College had their three game winning streak snapped with a 98-82 defeat at the hands of defending Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball champions Albertus Magnus on Saturday afternoon at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.
Oliver poured in 22 points, while Jordine scored 19 points of his own. Mount Ida sophomore point guard Jayson Clark (Austin, Texas) had a double-double with 11 points and 11 assists, which tied his career mark for dimes in a game.
Sophomore forward Jaqhawn Walters (Hartford, Conn.) scored a season-high 29 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for the Falcons, who led from beginning to end to improve to 10-3 on the year and 6-2 in league play, while the Mustangs dropped to 8-7 overall and 4-4 in conference tilts.

Albertus Magnus opened the contest on a 10-0 run over the first two and a half minutes of play. During the spurt, AMC knocked down a pair of three-pointers and Walters made two shots in the paint. The visitors would answer with a 6-0 run of the own to pull within four five minutes into play. The early runs continued with the Falcons reeling off nine straight point capped by a jumper from senior wing Marc Wilson (Jersey City, N.J.) to give AMC a 19-6 advantage. Throughout the remainder of the opening half the Falcons kept their leads thanks to hot shooting.
In the first 20 minutes, Albertus Magnus hit over 65 percent of its shots, highlighted by a 7-of-11 performance from three-point range that led to a 46-35 lead at the half.
The Mustangs would go on to shoot 42.9% from the floor for the game, led by an 8-11 performance by Jordine.
Midway through the second stanza, Wilson gave the Falcons their largest lead on the contest with a free through to make it 76-53. The swarming Albertus defense forced 11 turnovers in the second frame, while hitting all three of their shots from beyond the arc to earn the league triumph.
Joey DeFillippi (Bristol, Conn.) added eight points and four assists for the Mustangs, while Dennis Ross (Portland, Maine) had six points off of the Mount Ida pine.
Walters led the way for AMC on the offensive end with his seventh double-double of the winter. The 6-6 forward also dished out four assists and shot 11-of-20 from the field. Freshman forward Shontaey Lovell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 16 points and added eight rebounds. He had an efficient afternoon, shooting 4-of-5 from the field 8-of-13 from the charity stripe. Thrust into a starting role, senior guard Dayron Caldwell hit four treys and poured in 14 points.
The Mustangs return to action on Monday with another road test, a 5:00 pm tilt at Anna Maria. Albertus Magnus plays again the same day with a home conference clash against Rivier at 3:00 pm at The Nest.
