Two More Mustangs Earn Conference Weekly Awards

NEWTON, Mass. – For the second straight week, Mount Ida received a pair of awards from the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC), after the Mustangs won their fourth straight game this past Saturday.

Jovan Wilkins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) was the third consecutive player to be named ECFC Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman Nick Hewitt (Killingly, Conn.) was the second different Mustang in the last two weeks to be named ECFC Rookie of the Week.

In Mount Ida's 14-12 win over Anna Maria, Wilkins had the game-clinching interception on the Mustang four yard line with less than ten seconds to play. That stopped a potential game-winning drive by the AMCATS, who had recovered an onside-kick, and was the second pick of the game for Wilkins, who also forced a fumble that was recovered by the Mustangs.

Hewitt had a new career high of 62 receiving yards on three receptions and caught a 32-yard touchdown pass to open up the scoring in Mount Ida's 14-12 win over Anna Maria. The first year receiver has 138 yards receiving and two touchdowns, and caught a game-high 7 receptions in Mount Ida's win over Castleton.

The Mustangs will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday afternoon when they host Husson University at 12:00 pm with at least a share of the ECFC regular season crown on the line.
