NEWTON, Mass. -- Responsible for all seven points in Mount Ida's 7-6 victory over SUNY Maritime this weekend, sophomore kicker Tyler Rodgers (Bridgewater, Mass.) has been recognized as the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) Special Teams Player of the Week.
Rodgers provided all of the scoring needed on Saturday as Mount Ida picked up their first ECFC victory of the year. Rodgers ran in a fake field goal from two yards out for a touchdown and added the extra point as well, which proved to be the difference as the Mustang defense stymied the privateers, holding them to just a pair of field goals.
The Mustangs also got two kickoffs from Rodgers for 104 yards, an average of 52.0 yards per kick.
For the season, Rodgers is 2-2 on field goals and has made seven of eight extra point attempts.
After collecting their first victory of the year, the Mustangs (1-3) and Rodgers will travel to Norwich this Saturday for a 1:00 pm conference road game.
