GOSHEN, N.Y. – Senior defensive back Jovan Wilkins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) has been selected as a member of the 2014 Division 3 Senior Classic Preseason Super Senior Watchlist, released on Tuesday evening by the Collegiate Development Football League (CDFL).
First and Second Team offenses and defenses were selected for the North and the South squads, as well as a general Honorable Mention of players to watch, with only members of the class of 2015 eligible for inclusion.
Wilkins was named to the Second Team North Defense and is now up for consideration for a spot in the D3 Senior Classic All-Star game, and for selection to the roster of "Team America", a USA National football team that is sponsored by the CDFL and travels to promote American football on an international level through games against and in other countries.
In his junior season, Wilkins led the Mustang defensive corps with five interceptions, bringing his already career-high total to 14. He racked up 53 tackles and consistently shut down the opponent's top receiving target. He was the lightning rod for a Mount Ida defense that led the country in passing efficiency against and he was named First Team All- Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC), as well as an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) North All-Star.
He has already been named a Preseason All-American this year by USA College Football.
Wilkins was just one of three players from the ECFC named to the Super Senior watch list, as he was joined by Becker's offensive lineman Chris Schwarz and SUNY Maritime's fullback Kyle Gardner, both who appeared on the North Offense Second Team.
Defensive lineman Max Nacewicz of Springfield, Mount Ida's third non-conference opponent this season, was selected to the First Team North Defense.
The Collegiate Development Football league (CDFL), is a football organization devoted to providing skill development and game playing opportunities for post high school and post college players between the ages of 18-25. The CDFL is nationally recognized for its development of four Collegiate All-Star football games; the "D3 Senior Classic", the "FCS Senior Scout Bowl", the" D2 vs. NAIA Senior Challenge" and the "CDFL International Scout Bowl". In addition, on the eve of the College football season the CDFL releases its All American selections for the upcoming season. Both efforts serve as examples of the CDFL's efforts to provide football scouting opportunities for players to continue their careers beyond college.
