Tuesday, October 2, 2012 - The Mount Ida College football team, under the direction of fifth year Head Coach Michael Landers, captured one of the biggest victories in the program’s 13 year history with a dramatic 36-32 Eastern Collegiate Football (ECFC) victory over rival Norwich University last Saturday. This win propelled the Mustangs to break through into the 10th spot in the New England Football poll for the third time in team history.
Mount Ida football has captured some very big victories
this season against strong opponents (UMASS-Dartmouth, Plymouth
State University) and now their biggest of the year over ECFC foe
Norwich. The Mustangs, who beat the Cadets for the first time
back in 2009 at home (22-21), were led by an impressive game from
signal caller senior quarterback Scott
Drosendahl (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) going 25-36 for 389
yards through the air and four touchdown passes. Mount Ida junior
wide receiver Jordan Hyman
(Middletown, CT/Xavier) was the key factor for his squad
offensively with his highest totals of the year registering two TD
catches along with 168 yards receiving.
Landers and the Mustangs could be 4-0 right now nearly besting a
powerful Springfield College team back on September 20th falling
49-42 surrendering three unanswered touchdowns in the final quarter
after leading late in third quarter.
Mount Ida football will host their second league contest of the season this coming Saturday against visiting Anna Maria College with game time slated for 1:00 p.m.
