Jim Seavey is marking his 30th year in the college sports information profession in 2017-18, and he joins the Mount Ida athletics team in the role of Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications.  Seavey comes to the Mustangs after a nine-plus year tenure at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, where he served in the dual role of Director of Sports Information and Intercollegiate Scheduling Coordinator.

A 1986 graduate of Marquette University, Seavey spent 17 years working at three NCAA Division II affiliated schools from 1990 through 2007, including a nine-year stint as the Associate Director of Athletics for External Affairs and Communications at Stonehill College as well as a combined eight years in athletic communications roles at Merrimack College and the University of Massachusetts Lowell.  Jim also served one-year stints as the Sports Information Director at both Loras College and Nichols College in the late 1980's in addition to his year of service at Suffolk University in 2007-08.

Seavey has also served in various capacities in conference information offices, most recently in the part-time role as Director of Media Relations for the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) for five years.  He served as Publicist for the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) during the 2006-07 academic year and also has experience as the Media Relations Director for both the Pilgrim Lacrosse League and the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association, and he additionally served as the Interim Director of Media Relations for Hockey East in 1994.

In June 2013, Seavey was inducted into the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Hall of Fame, which annually honors members of the organization who have made outstanding contributions to the field of college sports information.  In June 2009, Seavey received CoSIDA's Lester Jordan Award that is presented annually for "exemplary service to the organization's Academic All-America program and the promotion of the ideals of being a student-athlete".  He served a three-year term on CoSIDA's Board of Directors and is in his 27th year as a member of the Academic All-America Committee, including the last five assisting with the organization's Academic All-America Hall of Fame induction ceremony.  In addition, Jim serves as coordinator of the selection committee for CoSIDA's prestigious Dick Enberg Award, which is presented annually to a person whose actions and commitment have furthered the meaning and reach of the Academic All-America Teams Program and/or the student-athlete while promoting the values of education and academics.  Seavey has successfully promoted a total of 20 national Academic All-America honorees during his career and received a Citation for Excellence in Publications from CoSIDA in 1991 for his work on Merrimack's women's basketball game program.  He also completed a two-year term as a member of CoSIDA's College Division Management Advisory Committee and served for three years as National Program Coordinator for the Daktronics Division II All-America Program.

Seavey received the Eastern College Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors Association's (ECAC-SIDA) highest honor in June 2013 when he was named as the College Division recipient of the Irving T. Marsh Award, which is presented annually to a member of the organization who, in the opinion of the ECAC-SIDA membership and Executive Board, has exhibited excellence in the field of sports information.  He served as ECAC-SIDA President during its 50^th anniversary year of 2004-05 and additionally served as chair and host for a trio of ECAC-SIDA workshops on Cape Cod in 2000, 2005 and again in 2015.  He served on four NCAA Division II Championship regional advisory committees, including a stint as chair of the Men's Basketball Northeast Regional Advisory Committee from 2000-2002, and he also represented the MASCAC on the NCAA Division III women's volleyball, women's lacrosse and football regional advisory committees.

Seavey was one of three 2013-14 Massachusetts Maritime Employee of the Year honorees and became just the second member of the Buccaneer athletic staff to receive the award.  In 2012, he received the Kevin Honkala Memorial Award that is voted upon by members of the Massachusetts Maritime baseball team and is presented annually to recognize contributions to Buccaneer Baseball.  He successfully nominated and promoted two major NCAA honors (Award of Valor and Sportsmanship Award) that Massachusetts Maritime received in an 18-month span in 2010-11.

In 2016, Jim received a Best In The District citation in CoSIDA's Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest for his feature titled "His Way" on Bob Corradi's final home contest as Buccaneer baseball coach in 2015.  In 2012, he received national honorable mention recognition from the NCAA and D3SIDA as part of the Division III Quarterly Identity Initiative Recognition Program for his feature titled "Teddy's Ballgame", which chronicled the Buccaneer men's lacrosse team's involvement with Team IMPACT.

Seavey received the Scoop Hudgins Outstanding Sports Information Director Award from the All-America Football Foundation in December 2008 and was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation in March 2008, as he serves as Chair for the Chapter's annual Scholar-Athlete Banquet.  He has been an active member of the New England Football Writers Association since 1989 and served as a member of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association/d3baseball.com National Top 25 voting panel.  Earlier this year, Jim was appointed to the Advisory Board for the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame.

Seavey completed a two-year term as a regional representative on the Division III Sports Information Directors Association Board of Directors, and he completed his 12th overall and final year on the ECAC-SIDA Executive Board in June 2015.  He also served a one-year term in representing the MASCAC on the Division III Conference Sports Information Directors Committee and has held elected board positions with four different regional and national sports information directors' organizations:  CoSIDA, ECAC-SIDA, D2SIDA and D3SIDA. 

A former chair of the Northeast-10 Conference Sports Information Directors Council for three years, Seavey was honored as part of Stonehill's national championship teams in women's lacrosse (2003 & 2005) and equestrian (2003) that were inducted into the College's Athletic Hall of Fame in September 2011.  He has had 13 student-athletes featured in Sports Illustrated's prestigious "Faces In The Crowd" column since 1992.

Jim and his wife, Cheryl, (a former basketball standout at Stonehill who serves as the girls' head varsity basketball coach at Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School), reside in Bridgewater, Mass. with daughters Mikayla (19), a freshman at Framingham State University, and Lindsey (16).
