"Rico" spent 21 years at the helm of the Mustang Men's Basketball program.  Throughout Cabral's entire 32 year career, he compiled a 464-355 overall record through three different levels of the game.

A six-time NJCAA XXI Coach of the Year, Cabral earned North Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year honors in the 1999-2000 season and in the 2000-2001 campaign, when he directed the Mustangs to their first-ever NAC title. Overall, Cabral compiled a record of 281-228 (.552) between NJCAA and NCAA competition while at Mount Ida.

Cabral brought outstanding athletic coaching and playing experience to the Mustang program after participating in four sports at Sharon High School where he graduated from in 1969. The school later voted Cabral into its high school Hall of Fame. He has also been inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame.

Prior to joining the Mustangs staff in 1991, he was the head men's basketball coach at Massasoit Community College for five years, compiling an overall record of 108-50 throughout his tenure. Cabral has also served as an assistant men's basketball coach at St. Bonaventure University and Boston College, a pair of NCAA Division I institutions. Additionally, he skippered the Marshfield High School boys basketball team from 1979-1985 and had an overall record of 66-60 in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA).

He attended Boston State College and served as captain before graduating in 1976. Cabral went on to receive his master's degree in education at Cambridge College.

Cabral resides in Walpole, Massachusetts with his wife Patti and has two sons, Joseph and Michael.  Joseph, who was a 2012 graduate of Mount Ida College and four year starter on the men's basketball team, went on to become Assistant Coach at Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts.
